Do you genuinely love God? Can you boldly state that you have the fear of God in you?
Do you honor God with the way you dress? The way you talk? Is God truly pleased with your life? Be honest.
These questions can be seen as judgemental. But these are the questions you should ask yourself daily. As a matter of fact, these are the questions the Holy Spirit confronts you with when He convicts you. The truth can be bitter sometimes, I understand. But if you are not honest to the spirit of God how do you expect to be fixed? How do you expect to be healed? If you go to the doctor he expects you to show him where it hurts. If you are capable to tell the spirit of God your weakness, it’s a sign you want to be helped. It is also a sign of humility.
Everyday I am striving to become a better version of myself. A version that pleases God. So whenever I mess up and it becomes a bad habit I truly appreciate it if someone corrects me. I absolutely love correction. People that correct you in a loving way truly want the best for you. Even the bible promotes correction (Proverbs 12:1 NKJV). A few years ago, I used to see correction as an attack. Even if I received feedback at school I always took it in a negative way and tried to defend myself when possible. If you are someone that hates correction you never learn nor grow. You become stagnant in the way you think and it even becomes normal to repeat past mistakes. But whenever you accept feedback and work on it before you know it, you have left behind habits that will not help you to grow.
“ The wounds of a friend is better than the kisses of an enemy”
Now I truly admire and appreciate the people that correct me when I go wrong. I’m talking about the people that manage to correct me in a loving way. There are also another type of people that just condemn you when you go wrong and only focus on your mistakes. These people love to remind you of your past and secretly want you to repeat the same mistakes. They prefer to criticize you when you are not around. Thank God I’m not talking about those kind of people today, but I’m trying to draw your attention to the people that hate to see you fail so correct you when you are deviating from the right path. If you have these kind of people in your life, keep them close to you and do the same for them. For iron sharpens iron!
Being a spirit-filled christian may not always be easy. You may make the same mistake over and over again. You will face many challenges, trials and temptations but it will all be worth it if you are able to overcome all of them.
“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.”
James 1:2-4 NKJV
Each and everyday strive to become the best version of yourself. It is possible to become perfect, the bible confirms this in Matthew 5:48 NKJV: “Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.”
You are the child of a perfect God, so the closer you draw to God the more you will resemble Him. So don’t let the world deceive you that you can never become perfect. God helps those that want to be helped.
Let this scripture become your daily prayer and meditate on it:
“Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.”
Psalms 139:23-24 NKJV
